Caring for wood

Wood is alive. A little care keeps it beautiful for years, and it gets better with age.

Every day

  • Keep wood away from water: take jewelry off before a shower, a swim or the dishes.
  • Put jewelry on after perfume, creams and hairspray, which can stain the wood and the paint.
  • Avoid direct sun and radiators for long periods; they dry the wood and fade the colours.

Cleaning

Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. If a piece gets wet, pat it dry and let it dry slowly at room temperature, never on a heater.

Kitchen pieces (the honey dipper, the mortar, the mini tagine): rinse quickly in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, dry at once, never in the dishwasher.

Feeding the wood

Once or twice a year, or when the wood looks dull, rub in a drop of olive or linseed oil with a soft cloth, leave it for an hour, then wipe off what is left. Do not oil painted areas or crochet.

Storing jewelry

Store each piece flat and apart, in its pouch or a box, so the paint and the braid do not rub. Silver 925 hooks can be cleaned with a silver cloth.

Candles

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire.
  • Take the wooden lid off before lighting, and put it back only once the wax has cooled.
  • Burn it on a flat, heat-proof surface. When the wax is finished, the glass and the lid make a box for rings or spices.
